From the Environmental Consultant group: Mike Beck, Senior Engineer, and Jackie Dylla, Senior Scientist, were invited to present the results of a recently completed project with MnDOT in which Braun Intertec researched and identified guidance documents applicable to managing intrusion of contaminated soil vapor into utility corridors constructed within MnDOT roadways.
The research included reviewing guidance documents published by Minnesota and federal regulatory agencies as well as interviewing representatives of transportation departments from nine other states to help identify ‘best practices’ in the industry. Through this diligent research, a few major gaps were identified which may result in further studies and changes in vapor intrusion regulations.
Like radon, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) may be entering buildings via vapor intrusion (VI) at concentrations that could have an effect on an individual’s health. At Braun Intertec, our environmental consultants understand how to properly manage environmental contamination issues. In addition, Braun Intertec can perform investigations to define the problem, work with regulators, provide litigation support and public communications, and design, install and operate mitigation systems.
